Veterinary Schools in United Kingdom

20 researched institutions with a campus here, offering 49 veterinary programs. This is the research done to date, not a complete list of every program.

How results are ordered: alphabetically by institution, or by most recently checked when you choose that sort. There is no price ranking, because tuition in different currencies, fee categories and bases (per year, per credit, whole program) is not comparable. Adjacent subjects such as pre-veterinary or animal science appear only when you choose a subject. A value we could not verify is shown as “not published”, never as “no”. Items marked Sponsored are paid placements; they never change accreditation information, verification or order. Online programs are not counted as physically located in a state or city, and an institution’s location does not tell you whether it enrols students from your country.

About veterinary education in United Kingdom

How veterinary education is organised

In the UK the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) sets and monitors the standards of veterinary degrees, and each accredited school undergoes an accreditation event roughly every seven years. As of the RCVS status table checked on 2026-10-19, nine schools are listed: Cambridge (conditional accreditation), and Bristol, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Liverpool, Nottingham, the Royal Veterinary College, Surrey and Harper and Keele (full accreditation). Most schools offer a five-year course for school leavers, a shorter graduate-entry route at some schools, and gateway or foundation-year routes for widening participation. A further jointly hosted BVSc (Aberystwyth University with the RVC) is recruiting but is not yet accredited per the university. Postgraduate taught and research veterinary degrees, including online distance programmes, are offered by several of the same institutions.

Qualification structures

Names and levels are local to United Kingdom. Similar names in other countries are not interchangeable.

BVSc / BVetMed / BVMS / BVM&S / BVetMS / BVMSci / VetMB
Primary veterinary degrees awarded by the accredited schools; the award title differs by university. Graduate-entry and gateway or foundation-year variants exist at some schools. Source
Postgraduate veterinary science degrees (MSc, MRes, MVetSci, PGDip, PGCert, PhD)
Taught and research postgraduate degrees at veterinary schools, including part-time online programmes such as the University of London / RVC distance MSc in Veterinary Epidemiology and Public Health and Edinburgh online MVetSci programmes. They do not by themselves qualify graduates as veterinarians. Source

Bodies that matter, and what each one does

Accreditation, validation, education authority and registration are different roles. Do not read a listing by one body as evidence from another.

Route to registration

Current rules as described by the official source; always check the authority directly.

The RCVS states that graduates from accredited programmes are permitted to register and work in the UK after graduation. Under the Veterinary Surgeons Act 1966 new veterinary degrees also need a Privy Council recognition order (relevant to the newest programmes). Overseas accrediting bodies the RCVS works with include AVMA, SAVC, EAEVE, AVBC and VCI. Online or postgraduate science degrees do not confer registration. Source

No degree on this site automatically permits anyone to practise as a veterinarian, and nothing here is visa, work-permit or credit-transfer advice.

Languages and admissions

Teaching languages. English; UK veterinary degrees are taught in English and applicants typically need IELTS or equivalent (scores differ by school).

Admissions. Undergraduate applications go through UCAS with a 15 October deadline for 2027 entry at the schools checked; graduate-entry applicants from North America use VMCAS at some schools (15 September 2026 deadline). Schools publish work-experience expectations that differ, e.g. a minimum of five weeks at Nottingham and 70 hours in practice plus 70 hours in other animal settings at the RVC; interviews are common.
