How results are ordered: alphabetically by institution, or by most recently checked when you choose that sort. There is no price ranking, because tuition in different currencies, fee categories and bases (per year, per credit, whole program) is not comparable. Adjacent subjects such as pre-veterinary or animal science appear only when you choose a subject. A value we could not verify is shown as “not published”, never as “no”. Items marked Sponsored are paid placements; they never change accreditation information, verification or order. Online programs are not counted as physically located in a state or city, and an institution’s location does not tell you whether it enrols students from your country.

About veterinary education in Australia

How veterinary education is organised

Veterinary science is taught at a small number of universities whose programs are accredited by the Australasian Veterinary Boards Council (AVBC); routes include direct entry from school, bachelor-then-doctorate sequences, and graduate-entry DVM courses. Veterinary nursing and technology are taught separately, mostly as vocational Certificate IV and Diploma courses and at a few universities as bachelor's degrees.

Qualification structures

Names and levels are local to Australia. Similar names in other countries are not interchangeable.

Accredited veterinary programs (BVSc, BVMS, DVM and combined routes)
AVBC lists accredited programs at Charles Sturt, James Cook, Murdoch, Adelaide, Melbourne, Queensland and Sydney, plus Southern Cross University on provisional accreditation. Award titles and entry routes differ by university. Source
Veterinary technology and nursing
Examples recorded here are a Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing delivered in blended form by a TAFE, and bachelor's degrees in veterinary technology at Charles Sturt and Southern Cross. These are separate from the veterinary degrees. Source

Bodies that matter, and what each one does

Accreditation, validation, education authority and registration are different roles. Do not read a listing by one body as evidence from another.

Australasian Veterinary Boards Council (AVBC)
Accredits veterinary schools and runs the Australasian Veterinary Examination; it does not itself register veterinarians.
State and territory veterinary registration boards
Register veterinarians; they refer to the AVBC Qualifications Generally Recognised list.

Route to registration

Current rules as described by the official source; always check the authority directly.

To register as a veterinarian in Australia, contact the veterinary board of the state or territory where you wish to work; boards refer to the AVBC Qualifications Generally Recognised list. Overseas-qualified veterinarians whose qualification does not allow registration without further examination can complete an accredited Australasian program or sit the Australasian Veterinary Examination. Veterinary nurse and technologist registration was described by one university as mandatory only in Western Australia. Source

No degree on this site automatically permits anyone to practise as a veterinarian, and nothing here is visa, work-permit or credit-transfer advice.

Languages and admissions

Admissions. Competitive entry is common: universities publish selection ranks or GPA thresholds and several add situational judgement tests (Casper), written applications, interviews or animal-experience requirements. Some programs are closed to international applicants. Source
