Veterinary Schools in Netherlands

1 researched institution with a campus here, offering 2 veterinary programs. This is the research done to date, not a complete list of every program.

2 programs

How results are ordered: alphabetically by institution, or by most recently checked when you choose that sort. There is no price ranking, because tuition in different currencies, fee categories and bases (per year, per credit, whole program) is not comparable. Adjacent subjects such as pre-veterinary or animal science appear only when you choose a subject. A value we could not verify is shown as “not published”, never as “no”. Items marked Sponsored are paid placements; they never change accreditation information, verification or order. Online programs are not counted as physically located in a state or city, and an institution’s location does not tell you whether it enrols students from your country.

About veterinary education in Netherlands

How veterinary education is organised

Utrecht University's Faculty of Veterinary Medicine describes itself as the only institution in the Netherlands training veterinarians. The veterinary study route consists of a three-year Dutch-taught bachelor followed by a three-year Dutch-taught master of 180 EC.

Qualification structures

Names and levels are local to Netherlands. Similar names in other countries are not interchangeable.

Bachelor Diergeneeskunde (BSc)
Three-year, Dutch-taught, full-time bachelor with selection (numerus fixus); first cycle of the Utrecht veterinary route. Source
Master Diergeneeskunde
Three-year, 180 EC, Dutch-taught master that the faculty says trains students to become certified veterinarians. Source

Bodies that matter, and what each one does

Accreditation, validation, education authority and registration are different roles. Do not read a listing by one body as evidence from another.

NVAO (Accreditation Organisation of the Netherlands and Flanders)
Quality-assurance agency that accredits Dutch and Flemish higher-education programmes; the faculty states its veterinary bachelor and master are NVAO-accredited (register not checked).
EAEVE / ESEVT
Evaluates veterinary education establishments in Europe; Utrecht is listed with the ESEVT status Accreditation.

Route to registration

Current rules as described by the official source; always check the authority directly.

The faculty states that graduates of its master are generally licensed veterinarians (algemeen bevoegd dierenarts). For the United States or Canada the faculty says its students get access to the NAVLE; this is not a statement of licensure anywhere. Source

No degree on this site automatically permits anyone to practise as a veterinarian, and nothing here is visa, work-permit or credit-transfer advice.

Languages and admissions

Teaching languages. Both the bachelor and the master in veterinary medicine are taught in Dutch; the master requires Dutch proficiency (B2+/C1) even though some components are in English.

Admissions. The bachelor is a numerus fixus programme with a selection procedure (225 places for 2027-2028 according to the programme page). Source
