How results are ordered: alphabetically by institution, or by most recently checked when you choose that sort. There is no price ranking, because tuition in different currencies, fee categories and bases (per year, per credit, whole program) is not comparable. Adjacent subjects such as pre-veterinary or animal science appear only when you choose a subject. A value we could not verify is shown as “not published”, never as “no”. Items marked Sponsored are paid placements; they never change accreditation information, verification or order. Online programs are not counted as physically located in a state or city, and an institution’s location does not tell you whether it enrols students from your country.

About veterinary education in New Zealand

How veterinary education is organised

Massey University offers the Bachelor of Veterinary Science, the country's AVBC-accredited veterinary degree, as an undergraduate qualification entered through a pre-selection semester. Veterinary nursing is taught at institutions such as Unitec as a diploma and a bachelor's degree.

Qualification structures

Names and levels are local to New Zealand. Similar names in other countries are not interchangeable.

Bachelor of Veterinary Science (Massey)
A five-year degree split into a pre-selection semester and a competitive 4.5-year professional phase; the page notes that professional qualifications in New Zealand are undergraduate degrees. Source
Veterinary nursing diploma and bachelor's degree (Unitec)
A Level 6 diploma (onsite or distance) and a three-year Bachelor of Veterinary Nursing, both at the Mt Albert campus. Source

Bodies that matter, and what each one does

Accreditation, validation, education authority and registration are different roles. Do not read a listing by one body as evidence from another.

Australasian Veterinary Boards Council (AVBC)
Accredits veterinary schools in Australia and New Zealand; it does not register veterinarians.
Allied Veterinary Professional Regulatory Council of New Zealand
Body with which Unitec says nursing graduates can apply for voluntary registration (role as stated by Unitec; not checked on the council's own site).

Route to registration

Current rules as described by the official source; always check the authority directly.

AVBC states that to register as a veterinarian in Australia or New Zealand you contact the veterinary board in the jurisdiction where you wish to work. The Massey page adds that international applicants must meet the Veterinary Council of New Zealand's English competence policy. Source

No degree on this site automatically permits anyone to practise as a veterinarian, and nothing here is visa, work-permit or credit-transfer advice.

Admissions. Massey selects for the veterinary professional phase using academic performance, non-academic performance and relevant experience, with separate domestic and international groups. Source
