Veterinary Schools in Sweden

1 researched institution with a campus here, offering 3 veterinary programs. This is the research done to date, not a complete list of every program.

How results are ordered: alphabetically by institution, or by most recently checked when you choose that sort. There is no price ranking, because tuition in different currencies, fee categories and bases (per year, per credit, whole program) is not comparable. Adjacent subjects such as pre-veterinary or animal science appear only when you choose a subject. A value we could not verify is shown as “not published”, never as “no”. Items marked Sponsored are paid placements; they never change accreditation information, verification or order. Online programs are not counted as physically located in a state or city, and an institution’s location does not tell you whether it enrols students from your country.

About veterinary education in Sweden

How veterinary education is organised

Veterinary medicine and veterinary nursing are taught at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) in Uppsala. The veterinary programme is 330 credits (5.5 years) and graduates then apply to the Swedish Board of Agriculture (Jordbruksverket) for a veterinary licence.

Qualification structures

Names and levels are local to Sweden. Similar names in other countries are not interchangeable.

Veterinärexamen (Degree of Master of Science in Veterinary Medicine)

Djursjukskötarexamen (Bachelor of Science in Veterinary Nursing)
180-credit professional degree for veterinary nurses, taught in Swedish at SLU Uppsala with two 10-week external placements. Source
Master's programme Veterinary Nursing (120 credits)

Bodies that matter, and what each one does

Accreditation, validation, education authority and registration are different roles. Do not read a listing by one body as evidence from another.

Jordbruksverket (Swedish Board of Agriculture)
Authority to which graduates of the veterinary programme apply for veterinary licence (legitimation), as stated by SLU.
EAEVE / ESEVT
European evaluation of the veterinary establishment; outcome status published in the EAEVE table.

Route to registration

Current rules as described by the official source; always check the authority directly.

SLU states that after the veterinary degree graduates apply to Jordbruksverket for a veterinary licence. Licensing rules for veterinary nurses and for foreign graduates were not researched. Source

No degree on this site automatically permits anyone to practise as a veterinarian, and nothing here is visa, work-permit or credit-transfer advice.

Languages and admissions

Teaching languages. The veterinary medicine and veterinary nursing bachelor programmes are taught in Swedish; the master's programme Veterinary Nursing is taught in English with international admission.

Admissions. SLU's veterinary and veterinary nursing programmes select applicants on grades (two thirds) and the högskoleprov aptitude test (one third) and publish application codes for Swedish students. Source
