Veterinary Schools in Switzerland

2 researched institutions with a campus here, offering 5 veterinary programs. This is the research done to date, not a complete list of every program.

How results are ordered: alphabetically by institution, or by most recently checked when you choose that sort. There is no price ranking, because tuition in different currencies, fee categories and bases (per year, per credit, whole program) is not comparable. Adjacent subjects such as pre-veterinary or animal science appear only when you choose a subject. A value we could not verify is shown as “not published”, never as “no”. Items marked Sponsored are paid placements; they never change accreditation information, verification or order. Online programs are not counted as physically located in a state or city, and an institution’s location does not tell you whether it enrols students from your country.

About veterinary education in Switzerland

How veterinary education is organised

The Vetsuisse Faculty, with sites at the Universities of Bern and Zurich, is described by the University of Bern as the only veterinary training provider in Switzerland. The 5.5-year federally regulated course follows the Bologna structure: a bachelor (semesters 1-6, 180 ECTS) and a master (150 ECTS), followed by the federal examination.

Qualification structures

Names and levels are local to Switzerland. Similar names in other countries are not interchangeable.

Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine
Six semesters, 180 ECTS, German-taught; natural-science, biomedical and veterinary foundations. Source
Master of Veterinary Medicine
Five semesters, 150 ECTS, with one of five specialisations and clinical placements; followed by the federal examination. Source

Bodies that matter, and what each one does

Accreditation, validation, education authority and registration are different roles. Do not read a listing by one body as evidence from another.

Federal Office of Public Health (BAG) / Medical Professions Act (MedBG)
Per the Zurich faculty, the training of veterinarians falls to the BAG and is regulated by the MedBG; the federal diploma follows the federal examination.
EAEVE / ESEVT (ECOVE)
Evaluates veterinary education establishments in Europe; the joint Bern and Zurich establishment is listed with the ESEVT status Accreditation (September 2026 list).

Route to registration

Current rules as described by the official source; always check the authority directly.

After the master, graduates sit the federal examination; the resulting federal certificate (Bern page) or diploma (Zurich page) entitles them to practise as veterinarians in Switzerland. Foreign veterinarians working at the faculty, even on a doctorate, must be entered in the medical professions register (Zurich page). Source

No degree on this site automatically permits anyone to practise as a veterinarian, and nothing here is visa, work-permit or credit-transfer advice.

Languages and admissions

Teaching languages. The language of instruction is German; the aptitude test is also offered in French and Italian.

Admissions. Places are limited (Bern 82, Zurich 90 first-year places per the Vetsuisse page) and allocated on an aptitude test; applicants pre-register with swissuniversities by 15 February and may state a preferred site. Source
